All Psychological Evaluations:
Psychological evaluations, also called psychological assessments, use tools that are scientifically designed to measure different areas of psychological functioning. Such areas can include: personality, mood, interpersonal strengths and weaknesses, intelligence, memory, language, attention, pain, trauma, substance use, anxiety, depression, interests or beliefs, etc. These measures, also called tests, are either administered to you by Dr. Heto or completed individually by you.
When an individual requests a psychological evaluation for their own benefit or for a specific reason, perhaps to understand an academic problem, a marital problem, a court-related or immigration problem, or to detect a mental health diagnosis, Dr. Heto will sit down with you to determine the specific question(s) to be addressed. A psychological assessment includes a clinical interview in which you will discuss your history and symptoms with Dr. Heto and test administration. The length of the assessment period varies by the questions that are of concern. Dr. Heto will then score and interpret the measures, and will write a report incorporating all of the data and addressing the questions at hand.
The cost of an assessment is a flat fee, determined by Dr. Heto after the referral questions and turn-around time have been agreed upon. The cost covers the time spent completing the evaluation, regardless of the results.
You should sleep and eat well on the days leading up to and the day of your evaluation, in order to be able to put forth your best effort. Assessments are often emotionally or mentally tiring. Rest and self-care is recommended after a psychological evaluation.
