Dr. Heto comes to the front range with national and international expertise in Clinical Psychology. She has extensive experience in assessing, diagnosing, and treating a wide range of mental health needs. She has held hospital privileges, conducted court-ordered evaluations, and served as clinical faculty in university graduate schools.
Dr. Heto has worked to expand her psychological knowledge with people from many cultures both within the United States and internationally, to be able to offer her clients a compassionate perspective that is well-rounded, global, and inclusive of all points of view and lifestyles.
Dr. Heto has been helping individuals to meet their personal goals for over ten years. After majoring in Psychology and Spanish at Grinnell College, and studying Clinical Psychology in Chile, she served in the Peace Corps in El Salvador for two years. Upon her return, she began counseling Latina victims of domestic violence and sexual assault.
Interested in furthering her ability to help others in their personal growth, Dr. Heto obtained her doctorate in Clinical Psychology from The George Washington University in Washington DC and completed her internship with the Department of Justice.
Dr. Heto was Associate Director of Washington DC’s premiere multicultural practice, Joseph Gorin & Associates, where she specialized in immigration evaluations and neuropsychological assessments.
Dr. Heto started a multicultural mental health practice in Washington DC, where she provided therapy for individuals from all backgrounds who were commonly experiencing some sort of transition in their lives, having difficulties in their relationships, overcoming painful aspects of their pasts, or just not as happy as they wanted to be.
Because of her interests in trauma and diversity, she has also worked in hospitals, prisons, jails, and universities. Dr. Heto worked as a Forensic Psychologist at Spring Grove forensic hospital in Maryland, conducting court-ordered evaluations of Competency to Stand Trial and Criminal Responsibility, has been the Director of Forensic Programs in Colorado’s only jail-based Competency restoration program, and was Director of the Latino Psychology and an Assistant Clinical Professor at the University of Denver.
